Membership & Clubhouse Rules

 

The following are complementary/in addition to the information given overleaf.


  1. New members are registered as probationary members for 12 months. If appropriate involvement has been demonstrated at the end of this period,  full membership status will be granted.
  2. Members are expected to accumulate 12 cruise points, 12 social points and 12 working party points annually. Membership may be revoked if participation is insufficient.
  3. All membership subscription fees due must be paid in full by the 30th November or the membership shall be deemed to have lapsed with the result that a new application to join will have to be made, including payment of Entrance Fee.
  4. Membership subscription payments apply 1 Jan – 31 Dec. Invoices relating to this period, are issued before the start of the year, in October, following agreement of fees at the AGM.
  5. Existing junior members who upon turning 18 renew their membership as an adult member do not have to pay the Entrance Fee, but payment of Levy and Key Deposit does apply.
  6. The liability of each Adult member is limited to £5, being the amount that each member undertakes to contribute to the assets of the company in the event of its being wound up while he is a member or within one year after he ceases to be a member.
  7. The Board of Directors may refuse membership or expel from membership for conduct or character likely to bring the club or sport into disrepute.
  8. Where membership is terminated or refused, The Board of Directors reserve the right to make this decision without justification or reason being given.
  9. For members who join as an Adult Couple, any disciplinary action which may be required will be applicable to both parties.
  10. Appeal against a refusal or expulsion from membership may be made to the club’s members and is decided by a majority vote.
  11. The use of the Clubhouse and associated amenities is regulated by instructions & rules laid down by the Board of Directors. From time to time, changes may be made to such instructions and rules. Communication of any such changes made via the Clubhouse notice board and/or WCC website will be deemed sufficient.
  12. Members may not access the Clubhouse except in the presence of a Director, or with prior permission from a Director.
  13. Only members of the Board of Directors (or on occasion members given specific permission) are permitted behind the bar.
  14. Any damage, breakages or equipment malfunction in the Clubhouse or associated amenities should be made good and/or reported to a Director.
  15. If the behaviour of any member might be considered to threaten the good name of the club, any Director may suspend membership, barring the member from the premises of WCC until such time that the Board of Directors can meet and consider the matter. Where a member's guest is involved in inappropriate behaviour the host member shall assume full responsibility including the possibility of suspension as laid out above.
  16. Guests must be formally signed in in accordance with the agreed ‘Signing in of Guests’ procedure.
  17. Members are required to accept full responsibility for the safety and behaviour of Junior members and any other children accompanying them at all times.                                               



 

The primary purpose of WCC is to provide facilities for, and to promote participation in, the Sport of Cruising the inland waterways. To achieve this, moorings and mooring amenities are available to members, but WCC is a cruising club, not just a mooring club. To promote participation in the sport, a lively programme of cruising and social events are held throughout the year. Active participation is the best way to get the most from your membership.


By committing to membership of the Club, you are also committing to active participation in the Club’s programme of cruising and social events.


The membership of the Club represents a wide cross-section of the community drawn from many areas in the North West. WCC is a ‘self help’ Club and all its current facilities have been gradually built up over time and been made possible by the tireless commitment, efforts and labour of the Club’s own members.


There are no paid officials or employees, it is up to each member to ‘do their bit’ to support the Club. No one person can do everything, but some involvement is expected from all members to support the Club’s future development and sustainability. Regular work party activities take place in which members are expected to participate.
